The purpose of the DIY is to learn and practice proper maintenance and repair techniques that you can routinely complete within a two-and-one-half-hour (2 hour) time period. \nThere are typically several NCC members who can assist you when an extra pair of hands or advice is needed. We are happy to show newcomers the joys of working on your own car. Most events start at between 8 am and 9 am and typically finish at 2 pm. Car crashes (don’t call them “accidents” – most car crashes are entirely avoidable) are one of the leading causes of death for teens in the U.S. Street Survival’s goal is to teach teen drivers the car control skills\, and more importantly\, the situational awareness and judgement to keep them safe. One of my favorite Street Survival quotes is “it’s about more than driving; it’s about living”. \nWhat does Street Survival consist of? \nIt’s a combination of classroom knowledge and in-car exercises in a controlled environment\, typically a large parking lot rented for the event. We teach applied physics: vehicle dynamics\, weight transfer\, transitions\, recovery from understeer and oversteer. We teach transformative skills such as looking ahead\, thinking ahead\, anticipating\, and the importance of refusing distractions\, like texting\, while driving. Try maneuvering around the skid pad while answering your smart phone: it can’t be done well. \nAll in-car exercises include in-car coaches\, most of whom come from the autocross and HPDE (High Performance Driving Experience) communities. Students drive their own cars\, since their own cars are what they need to learn to control. The morning exercises consist of learning ABS braking and braking while turning\, recovery from understeer on the skidpad\, and managing weight transfer / vehicle transitions in a slalom. The afternoon exercises consist of emergency lane change maneuvers\, more skidpad practice and a mini course (don’t call it autocross!) that combines all the skills the students have learned. \nWhen the students arrive in the morning\, the look on their faces says “my parents dragged me out of bed at 6am to come to this thing.” By the end of the day\, they’re saying “wow\, this blows Drivers’ Ed away!” One of the most gratifying experiences for a Street Survival coach\, volunteer\, or organizer is seeing the smiles on our students’ faces as they begin having those light bulb\, epiphany moments\, learning to better control their cars. Parents send feedback to TRSS all the time expressing how the clinic transformed their teenagers’ driving and started them on the road to becoming more confident\, more competent drivers. \n \n \n \n \n \n Street Survival –Afshawn Towfighi – afshawn.towfighi@nccbmwcca.org \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Local contact info: nccstreetsurvival@gmail.com \nFAQs: https://streetsurvival.org/schools/frequently-asked-questions/ \nCalendar of events: https://streetsurvival.org/ \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nMore URL:https://www.nccbmwcca.org/event/tirerack-street-survival-3/ LOCATION:Summit Point Motorsports Park\, 201 Motorsports Park Cir\, Summit Point\, WV\, 25446 CATEGORIES:Tire Rack Street Survival ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.nccbmwcca.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/22/2013/02/street-survival-logo.png ORGANIZER;CN="Rafael Garces":MAILTO:rafgar@verizon.net END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20230921T200000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20230921T200000 DTSTAMP:20230902T171356Z CREATED:20230902T171356Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230902T171356Z UID:32715-1695326400-1695326400@www.nccbmwcca.org SUMMARY:NCC Fall 2023 Sim Racing Series #3 DESCRIPTION: URL:https://www.nccbmwcca.org/event/ncc-fall-2023-sim-racing-series-3/ LOCATION:MD CATEGORIES:Sim Racing ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.nccbmwcca.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/22/2023/09/suzuka.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20230921T180000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20230921T180000 DTSTAMP:20230618T193527Z CREATED:20230618T193527Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230618T193527Z UID:32646-1695319200-1695319200@www.nccbmwcca.org SUMMARY:MoCo Social DESCRIPTION: URL:https://www.nccbmwcca.org/event/moco-social-27/ LOCATION:Old Town Pour House\, 212 Ellington Blvd\, Gaithersburg\, MD\, 20878 CATEGORIES:Social Events ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.nccbmwcca.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/22/2021/11/OldTownPourHouse.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20230916 DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20230917 DTSTAMP:20230713T161307Z CREATED:20210612T010446Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230713T161307Z UID:31647-1694822400-1694908799@www.nccbmwcca.org SUMMARY:Solomon's Social Saturday DESCRIPTION:What: Solomons SATURDAY Social \nThis Solomons event is really just another one of our fun “mini-meets”\, informal gatherings of BMW enthusiasts.
